Timothy Wild
Director at Large
I have been with The City coming up to 25 years. All this time has been with same business unit, admittedly with different names. I started as a Community Social Worker (CSW), then became an Issue Strategist (responsible the poverty and homelessness files), and, subsequently, an acting team lead for Social Policy and Planning and currently as a team lead for the CSW program. I have an MA in history, from the University of Alberta, and an MSW, in community development and policy, from the University of Calgary. This is my fifth term (not consecutive) as a member of the APTEA Board. I joined the Board as I believe we all have an obligation to work for the collective good of our members. This was highlighted particularly during the years of Corporate austerity and beyond, when our salaries were both frozen and undermined by inflation. For me, however, it is not just about income but also about being shown respect (by residents, senior leadership and Council), and experiencing dignity, as professional municipal civil servants. Whilst we are not a bargaining unit, we can still be a powerful voice for Exempt Staff. Beyond work, I am interested in southern African politics, eco-socialism, writing, modern British history, hegemony and power, electoral reform, the class system and travel. On a day-to-day basis, I like cooking, Billy Bragg and irony.

Director at Large
I have worked in various areas of Human Resources at The City for over 18 years. For the past ten years, I have been in Compensation. The part I love most about being in this area is learning about all the different work my colleagues do across the organization and seeing the passion they have for their jobs. As a born and raised Calgarian, I am a Flames fan who has held game ticket packs since 2001. The 2004 Stanley Cup run was the highlight of my fandom. Interestingly, I was at a dinner in Newcastle, England in July 2004 where a man from Nigeria mentioned that he knew the Flames lost the in Stanley Cup final. I enjoy travel so much that I made it my goal to visit 30 countries by age 40. Now that I have done 30 by 40, my next goals are to visit all seven continents, circle the globe and, if possible, go to 50 countries by age 50 (COVID definitely put a wrench in that one). A big travel bucket list moment for me was in 2017 when I saw Victoria Falls and did a safari in Zimbabwe. I joined APTEA in 2011 for the discounts to Off Broadway shows, and I recently became a Director at Large in June 2023 to become more involved.
